How To Make Toddler Chicken Wings
Description
Some things in life are just obvious–say, like pairing your child’s love of all things crispy and all things fruit into dinner. Chicken. Berries. Together at last and in toddler chicken wing form, for your pleasure–and, hopefully, your child’s.
Even better: no frying needed; an air fryer or your oven will do. These toddler chicken wings come together quickly, too–so fast, in fact, that they’re exactly the sort of quick meal or emergency backup you want to have in your back pocket come nights where you get home late or when nobody can tell you what they want to eat for dinner. Obviously, the answer is wings–but who knew your small child could like them as much as you do?

(Note: the recipe is organized and sequenced by the components–the wing and sauce, respectively–with the latter to be made while the former cooks.)
Ingredients
Instructions
Wings
Pat both sides of the wings with a paper towel to remove any moisture, then shake the baking powder over the wings to coat; season each wing with a bit of salt. Toss to ensure even spreading. Spritz wings with cooking spray.
Cooking Methods:
- If using an air fryer: heat for 15 minutes on 425, turning once.
- If using an oven: heat at 425 on your convection oven setting for 35-40 minutes, turning every fifteen minutes.
Sauce (make while wings are cooking)
- In a small bowl, melt butter.
- In a blender, add the blackberries, two big squeezes each of the lemon and honey; then several shakes each of the garlic, cilantro, and dill (and just a bit of mint, if using); and then a pinch each of salt and pepper. Blend until smooth, roughly 30 seconds.
- Pour sauce into the bowl with the butter–if the sauce is grainy/seedy, pour it through a sieve to filter out some of the blackberry bits–and mix until blended.
- Toss the wings in the sauce bowl until fully coated.
Serve
If your child is familiar with and/or comfortable with eating chicken drummies, just add a bit of ranch to the side as a dipping sauce; if not, and you plan on pulling the meat from the bone, save a little sauce to drizzle over the top or side next to the meat.
Adapt
If you have the time and/or need for super crispy wings, put them in the fridge for a few hours after you’ve coated them in baking powder. To make this with drumsticks or thighs, pat the chicken pieces dry, then cook for 18-20 minutes in an air fryer set to 375, or an oven set to 350 for 30-35 minutes. Let chicken rest 3-5 minutes before tossing in sauce.
