Toddler-Friendly Guacamole They’ll Actually Eat

Getting toddlers to eat something green is usually a challenge—but not with this toddler-friendly guacamole. It’s creamy, mild, and made with just a few simple ingredients that even the pickiest eaters can get behind. No onions, no overpowering spice—just ripe avocado, a touch of citrus, and a pinch of herbs to keep it fresh and flavorful.

This guac is designed with toddlers in mind: smooth enough for young eaters, but still thick enough to scoop with veggie sticks or whole grain chips. It’s perfect as a snack, a lunchbox dip, or a healthy side at dinner. Whether you’re introducing avocado for the first time or just looking for an easy, wholesome snack your toddler will say yes to, this guacamole is a go-to you’ll come back to again and again.

What Makes This Guacamole Toddler-Friendly?

This version skips the heat, raw onions, and garlic that traditional guac recipes rely on. Instead, we use mellow, fresh ingredients that let the avocado shine while still offering great flavor and a creamy texture toddlers can manage.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Ripe avocados – The star of the show, mashed until smooth with small soft chunks left in
  • Lime or lemon juice – A splash for brightness and to help prevent browning
  • Fresh herbs – A pinch of parsley, cilantro, or oregano for mild, earthy flavor
  • Optional add-ins – Finely shredded zucchini or mashed peas for added nutrients

No salt is necessary unless you’re adjusting for an older toddler or adult palate. And feel free to stir in a tablespoon of full-fat yogurt for a little extra creaminess.

You can make this guac in under 5 minutes with just one bowl and no cooking—perfect for busy parents who want to keep snack time quick and healthy.

FAQ

Can babies eat guacamole?
Yes! If your baby is over 6 months and developmentally ready for solids, mashed avocado is a great first food. Just skip citrus and herbs for younger babies and serve it plain.

How should I store leftover guacamole?
Press plastic wrap directly on the surface of the guacamole and store it in an airtight container in the fridge. It’s best eaten within 24 hours.

What dippers are toddler-safe?
Try soft red bell pepper strips, steamed carrot sticks, thin rice cakes, or broken-up soft tortillas. For younger toddlers, you can spoon it onto toast or mix it into scrambled eggs.

Can I freeze guacamole?
Technically yes, but it may change texture. For toddlers, it’s best served fresh to maintain the smooth consistency and color.

Difficulty: Beginner

Description

The secret to this guacamole is the use of edamame puree, which adds a nutty richness--and a lot of protein--to the avocado and lime.

Instructions

Prep/Cook

  1. Boil a large handful of frozen edamame beans until super soft, roughly 10 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  2. Unpeel the avocado and remove the green fruit from the core. Add it and the edamame to a blender, along with on generous spoonful of your cheese, some cilantro, and a small pinch of salt. Squeeze out the juice of your orange into the blender jar.
  3. Blend until smooth. (Note: you’ll likely need to free up the blender blades and/or push shards back into the mix as the ingredients mash, so be ready with a spatula and don’t be discouraged if it takes a few turns of blending before it’s ready to go.)

Serve

  1. You can put this -ish on anything: go nuts. Introduce by spooning a bit over bread or crackers/teethers–or your child’s preferred carb-y equivalent–and see how your child takes to it. Once he/she is familiar with the taste and texture, begin to use it as a topping on proteins that your child may be less excited about (i.e., salmon).

Adapt

  1.  You can, of course, at any time strip this back to guac's essence: avo, citrus, seasoning. As our son matures, we tend to favor a more elemental guac when using as a sauce or topping for, say, tacos; when using it as a spread on toast or a bagel, we continue to use this version
