Cottage cheese is a powerhouse of nutrition, packed with protein, calcium, and essential vitamins that support children’s growth and development. You know that, we’re sure; you also know it’s not often a food young children are craving/asking for. But when you integrate it into fun, flavorful dishes they do love, it can really take house favorites to the next level. We offer some great toddler cottage recipes below.

Cottage cheese’s superpower is its versatility: it can be used in both sweet and savory dishes; it can flex (in)to breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even snack recipes. Its mild taste and creamy texture–especially when whipped–means it blends easily into kid-friendly meals without overpowering other flavors. And you already know about its high protein content–far higher than other cheeses and even greater than many typical animal sources of protein–and probiotics, which support healthy digestion and immunity—important factors in growing bodies.

Now, obviously, don’t serve it plain. If your child is smitten with yogurt and/or cream cheese, we’d even tell you not to bother with serving it with fruit and/or other yogurt toppings; instead, integrate it into dishes your child already loves. We find cottage cheese is an exceptional substitute for other dairy products and even oils when baking, with no changes to texture and big increases to the protein content. Pro tip: look for low(er) sodium and smaller curd cottage cheese–this will both ensure your toddler cottage cheese recipes aren’t overly salty (or require a lot of sugar to balance) and don’t require additional blending or mixing to break down the chunks.
